New Year's Eve... with a purpose

Last night was the annual New Year’s Eve celebration at the church (pictures to follow later). There were people singing, dancing, and sharing what the Lord has done in their lives (since 2007 was the Year of the Harvest). We had an amazing dinner and got to spend some more time with the Pastor and his wife, since they had just gotten back from 3 months in the states 2 days ago. The best part, though, was after.

When everyone had left and we were cleaning a bit, we saw how much food was left and we decided to go downtown and give it to the hungry people there. At 2 am we went to them… most of the people we gave food to were drug addicts, thin from lack of food, they spent all their money on drugs. Prostitutes smelling of alcohol, one pregnant… some kids… but the Lord was there! We were able to minister to them, give them food, and pray over them. They were so grateful we felt so blessed to be there and to be able to serve them in that way. Pastor Ricky says that the church will try to do this more often this year, maybe once a week. We want to see these people turn their lives around and go after something much greater than chasing after their next high! Please pray that we can see fruit in this ministry and that lives may be redeemed!

Hi Becky & David,
Ministering "unto the least of these" is the right thing to do - but be careful and safe. Being wise in your actions and will strengthen your witness.

I wanted you to know that Ron and his Mom moved to the mid-west (Indiana??). I gave him your note, and sent his reply to the VT address. He was very encouraged by your message.

Take care,
Carrollyn

Hey guys! I miss you! My rm convinced me to go to Italy this fall, against my better judgement. Soooo, since I'm being financially responsible already, I want to visit you too! What's a good time of year to come when I won't turn into a molten puddle of Rachel?

Financially irresponsible, I meant! haha...you get the point. :-)

Hi Becky,

It's been a while since I checked in. I am so glad to read about your adventures in helping the poor, hungry, and needy. You did exactly what needs to be done - you went to them, and I admire you so much for it. Praise the Lord.

I finished my Long Ridge Writing class, and I'm still studying through the Christian Writers Guild. I love it. I feel I am making progress in God's time :). I want to write to bless and help others come to know Jesus as their best friend. I'm trying, and I am learning from Bible study through the writing process.

About school this year - at last Wednesday's faculty meeting, I won a PAW Award, Principal Award Winner, for my work on the Reading Adoption Committee. I was not expecting it, so it was a pleasant surprise. I love my position this year and feel the Lord has truly blessed me with a good year. My students are great, and I enjoy working with them each day. They are a true blessing. I teach many Hispanic students, and I enjoy them. They enrich my classes.

May you continue to be blessed in doing the Lord's work. I think about you often, though I don't always take the time with my busy schedule to check in. Thank you for sharing my Grand Canyon poem. I am not much of a poetry writer, but I enjoy playing around with my thoughts and words.

God bless.

Hi, David and Becky!!!

I'm glad to see how well the both of you are doing! Sorry to ehar about your wrists, David, that was a shame. Atleast the hospitals weren't scary, and they were sterilized. That's always a plus!

Dexter and I were thinking of the two of you, and hoping things were going great for the both of you!

We're pleased to see what a difference the two of you have been making on other people. Everytime we get a chance, we're boasting about the great job that you are doing for others and for God.

We were wondering if you were planning on visiting the states anytime soon. Dexter and I are getting married on June 20th in St. Augustine, and we'd love for the two of you to be there. We'll send an invitation out to you per the address that you have posted for Honduras. You can call either Dexter 407-453-3916 or me 407-454-2654 or email me: leejenn@osceola.k12.fl.us to RSVP by May 1st. Don't worry about bringing a gift. The best present would be to have you both there. (Warm & fuzzy moment!)

The both of you left just in time, from the school district. Severe cut backs have been made, and Osceola is the least severe compared to surrounding counties. They're cutting into extra school programs, after school activities, possible cut backs in insurance and art / music / drama classes, along with no pay increases.

If you, or the kids, need anything at all, please let Dexter and I know. Whatever we can do for you, and your school and church, we will try our best to do!

May God keep blessing the two of you. You're always in our prayers and thoughts!

Love~

Dexter and Jen
